Fiscal year (FY) 2025 starts on October 1 and there are several changes on the horizon. The new fiscal year will introduce 252 new ICD-10-CM codes, 36 deleted codes, and 13 revised codes while ICD-10-PCS updates will usher in 371 new codes and 61 deleted codes. Here are some of the highlights for the coming year.
ICD-10-CM code updates:
- Several new codes for lymphoma in remission
- New codes to report hypoglycemia level
- New codes for presymptomatic type 1 diabetes
- New codes for reporting obesity class
- Expansion of codes for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa
- New codes for cement and fat pulmonary emboli
- New codes for discogenic low back and lower extremity pain
- New codes for poisoning and adverse effect of immune checkpoint inhibitors
- New Z codes for progesterone, HERS, and other receptor status
- A new Z code for encounter for sepsis after care
- And more!
ICD-10-PCS code updates:
- New codes for breast reconstruction using lumbar artery perforator (LAP) flaps
- Reclassification of codes for sustained release drug-eluting stents (DES) in the lower extremities from the New Technology section to the Medical and Surgical section
- New codes for radiofrequency ablation of the renal sympathetic nerves
- A new code for division of the bioprosthetic valve aortic valve leaflets during TAVR
- Several new technologies, including new substances in the XW0 (Introduction) table
- Reclassification of some substances from the XW0 table to the Introduction table 3E0 in the Administration section
